Recently, engineers at ExxonMobil subjected a popular mid-size car to extensive laboratory testing focused on sludge cleanup.

In the first phase of testing, the vehicle was operated in a manner that would lead to the formation of extensive quantities of sludge in the engine.

This was done to simulate what can happen under adverse operating conditions over an extended service period.

In phase two, known as the “Clean Up” phase, the engine was filled with Mobil 1 Extended Life 10W-60, and the vehicle was run for nearly 19,300 kilometers at 6,500 kilometer drain intervals.
